Company Presentation for Farum Data ApS
Farum Data & Dokumentation ApS, a PLC, was founded in 1984, specializing in contract programming, systems documentation and factory documentation.
It was soon discovered that there was an unoccupied niche within the IT business : media conversion, which in this context means making it possible to read and write non-DOS media on a "normal" PC, and data manipulation. At the time, we were mainly converting CP/M to DOS, DisplayWrite to Word, 8" disks to 5.25", with the occasional reel-to-reel tape to QIC streamer conversion thrown in.
Today, the activities are mainly in converting
database files to flat address files, assisting
companies in changing systems without losing their data, and act
as a "go-between" between different systems.
We can also detect an increasing
number of very speciel jobs. An example is the conversion of 1.000 8" discs from a MR-scanner.
We are also active in the forensics marked. Until now mainly for customers like Customs & Excise, but the Fraud squad has also knocked on our door (as a customer, that is ).
The latest addition to our products, is a number of programs for CBRN use (NBC in the old days). More info can be found here
Datarecovery, i.e. the recovery of magnetic media after a fire, or if you have dropped your notebook into the bathtub, is a different cup of tea altogether, and we leave this to IBAS in Norway and Data Recovery in USA, depending on the type of job.
We have now been active in the media conversion
market since 1986, and consider ourselves to be the leading
company in Northern Europe, which is supported by the fact that we
have customers all over Europe.
However, even within media conversion, specialized disciplines can be found.
Our technical background is in mainframe
systems and record-based IT, all the way back to punched cards,
(IBM 517, 519,
82, 88,… Ah, what a beautiful time that was…)
via IBM 360/40, CDC and Siemens hardware, to IBM/390.
We have not much experience (and even less interest) in graphic applications, which is why we avoid these jobs as much as possible (however, in special cases, bribes are accepted…)
Apart from media conversion, we offer programming assistance in the following languages:
- COBOL
- PL/I
- IBM Assembler
- RPG (ref. Validator)
- Turbo Pascal / Delphi
- DLL development in Delphi
