Non-Profit / Cheap Conversions
We are aware of the fact that many obsolete systems end in the hands of people eager to preserve knowledge on how things were done in the past.
This varies from painstakingly assembling working systems from scratch, based on parts found in mysterious places such as eBay, to systems working on standard PC's through simulators. Others are just interested in preserving the software.
A few conversion bureaus and individuals have therefore decided to be of assistance in this noble effort, so a major part of our IT heritage will not be lost forever, on the condition that these activities do not interfere with day-to-day commercial activities. Some delays may therefore be inevitable.
These conversions will be dealt with on a non-profit basis. In principle, this means that we will charge you for "P & P" and "wear and tear" on our systems, which are ofte equipped with drives which went out of production years ago. These systems will need to be kept in proper shape and eventually have drives replaced, so we can fulfill our commercial obligations. My own guess regarding "wear and tear" would be something like $ 10 for a tape, and $ 5 for a floppy disc, but I am open for suggestions.
We are very aware of the fact that some people might want to use this (almost) free service as a cheap way-out for commercial conversions. Normally, we will therefore not offer this service for media or formats currently in wide-spread use (3.5" DOS media, Excel files, ...), when the request is to convert a 10 MB long address list or where other relevant products are available. For commercial purposes, our normal pricelist applies.(http://www.farumdata.dk/uk/enprice.asp )
